Game #9: Lightning Bolts

It looks like the photos I took on this day were mostly family. (Nate had an extended fan club that day so I ended up mostly documenting that aspect of the game.) Sorry! I will post anyway in case there's interest in the other photos included in the album.

Game #8: Lightning Bolts vs. Orange Crush

Photos from Game 8. (It appears I took a hiatus from photos Games 5, 6 and 7. Sorry!

Game #4: Lightning Bolts vs. Green Tigers

Apologies for being absent on the blog. I've entered my busy season with work so my time to work on personal photos has dwindled considerably. My own projects have sort of fallen to the wayside. I'm at the bottom of my own totem pole. :-( But in an effort to get as many photos up as possible before the official end of season (the season doesn't end until we have our pizza party, right??), I've devoted a bit of time to find and post some more photos.

Enjoy.

Game #3: Lightning Bolts vs. Little Rascals

Photos from this weekend are finally up! I apologize for the delay - it was a busy weekend for me -- but better late than never, right?? :-)

Enjoy.

As always, you can click on the box to go to the actual album, view images at your own speed and download or order photos to be printed from the lab of your choice. Let me know if you have any questions.

And some video footage from the game as well.

Game #2: Lightning Bolts vs. Storm Troopers

With two games under their belts now, the Lightning Bolts are starting to get the hang of this game. I think it's safe to say that everyone had a great time and we all were thankful the sweltering heat from Game 1 did not make a reappearance today. (Although we would have been prepared for it, thanks to Misty who brought a nice little fan mister with her...)

Enjoy some photos from Game 2:

Sorry, no video this time. Got to the game only to realize the battery on my camcorder was dead. Good thing there is no shortage of games to videotape ... Hope to have video back next week.

Game #1 Recap

Game Highlights from Coach Eddie:

Lightning Bolts, BOY, WHAT A GAME!!

I was expecting our team to do well, but they did GREAT! I was expecting it to be fun, but it was SUPER FUN! We really have a great bunch of boys. It is probably hard for us to comprehend how brave they are. With all of the build up of the game, the big crowds, the cheering and the opposing team, they went out there and did something that most of them had never done before. Many of the boys had never even seen a soccer game before Saturday and yet they went out there and did it! And they did it so well!

A few “Game Notes”:

* It was HOT on Saturday. Some of the boys looked really beaten down by the sun and heat. Although that may be the hottest game we play, I want to make sure these guys don’t get hurt. During the game, some players on the field were letting me know they were thirsty but I told them to just wait a few minutes until the end of the period. I’m going to bring one of those squeeze water bottles to give them a few quick gulps of water, even if they are on the field and the game is being played. We’ll also have a squirt bottle for giving them a “face mist” to cool them down. Plenty of water before the game (plus sunscreen) is a good idea. Any other suggestions are certainly welcome.

* During the game I missed one of the substitution calls from the referee so the amount of periods played by each player was a little uneven. When I thought we were in the first period, the ref called substitution to start the 3rd period (I missed the entire 2nd period) and I was scrambling the rest of the game to try to even things out so everyone could play the same amount of time. This will be easier during the next game because I’ll have a watch and will be more in tune with when substitution is supposed to happen.

* There were a few minor, brief altercations between some players. It seemed to involve one player on the other team that felt it was fun to hit a few of our guys for no reason. I noticed it a few times but there were some incidents that I did not even see. If you notice something like this on the field, please let either Coach Joseph or myself know about it. From what I saw, our team showed excellent sportsmanship and restraint.

A few “Team Notes”:

* I mentioned at the last practice that we would all need to pitch in to pay for the team banner. This is no longer necessary. Misty, our team parent, arranged for our team banner to be sponsored by Dr. John Bugh of Mission Oaks Chiropractic (Christian’s Granddad). A big thanks to Dr. Bugh for his support and paying for our awesome Lightning Bolts team banner! It looks GREAT!

* We will still have practice this Wednesday, even thought there is no game this Saturday for Labor Day weekend. After Labor Day is over, we have nine Saturday games in a row through the end of the season.

* At practice you will get some paperwork. Misty will be handing out the team picture day schedules and ordering information plus a few other documents. The finalized team game schedule with snack responsibilities and field setup/takedown dates will also be handed out. We still need volunteers to setup the fields on 2 game days (10/17 and 10/24). Volunteers will need to get to the field at 8:00am on those days (our games are at 9:00am on those days) to help setup the field. Let me know if anyone can do it.

* Thanks to everyone for their team spirit. Hearing the crowd cheer and yell was great and I know the players love it!

See you all on Wednesday!

Coach Eddie
